Over the past couple of years, recruiting and hiring has drastically changed. As business leaders, if we want to potentially have great people work for us in the future, we need to adjust how we interview and identify the best fit for our organizations.

In this episode, I talk with Amy Oviedo, the founder and CEO of Recruiting Experiences, about all this. We discuss the power of taking a sabbatical to recharge or redirect, the importance of mutual agreement between employers and employees, hiring the scrappy person, and much more. I got a lot out of this interview, especially when we discussed the importance of letting people try, even if they aren’t completely ready. I hope you find this interview valuable as well.

“You have to, as a leader, be willing to let people… fall on their face now and again. And then, picking them up when you need to, dusting them off, talking about the lessons, and moving on to the next one. That is not easy to do when something’s your baby… [But] it’s never going to go perfectly anyway and whether it’s me overextending myself and messing something up or me letting somebody who’s maybe not quite ready jump in, we’re still going to get the work done. And we’re going to be fine, we’re going to learn from it and we’re going to move on to the next thing.”
